Chromecast can’t use Hotel WiFi Captive Portal

Trying out a Chromecast after reading reviews for Amazon fire stick, Google Chromecast, AppleTv. The reviews omit that Chromecast can’t navigate through captive portals, which are used in many public wifi spots including in hotel rooms. The Chromecast browser gives and error that there is a security error with the page, that it doesn’t match the provider, and then the window closes and the Chromecast says there is no app to perform the process. This is a significant oversight in the reviews. Once you search for Chromecast and hotel wifi, you find many people with the same issue. Most workaround options suggest bringing your own router, but this gets technical, requires more hardware, and raises the cost of use. All masked by reviews focusing on the lower price than the AppleTV.

Edit: for precision, simple portals appear to work. Portals with multiple steps or redirects are the portals that fail.
